MENSTRUAL TABOO

Menstrual cycle is the natural process that happens in every woman in the world. The process is necessary for women for the continuity of life on earth. The impure blood coming out from the body through menstrual. Menstrual cycle is the beginning of new life and puberty in females. Some parts  of our country celebrate menstrual cycles.

Example – Assam celebrates menstrual in the name of Tuloni biya.

Rthumathi in Kerala, Some parts of Maharashtra as oyi bharao , Odisha, Goa ( konkani) etc.

Some countries that celebrate menstrual are Bharat ,Sri Lanka, Nepal etc.

Whereas in some parts of our  country Bharat it is considered  as untouchable, dirty, impure ,insulted , ashamed , unsuspicious, kept secret etc.

The girls are not allowed to touch pickles, not allowed to enter in the temples. The thought of our families and societies is that God and temples become impure.

The belief differs from   person to person.

Even most of the women have different opinions about it.

Here I want to share my opinion about it.

The menstrual cycle is the natural process that occurs in every woman. Yes , the blood is impure but this impure blood nourishes the baby in the womb. From this, every person in this world becomes impure because all are born from the womb of the mother.

We the human beings are now judging our God by purity and impurity. God is infinite, supreme, holy.  Our creator has created us, then how can God become impure if he is touched by a female?

We can’t understand and know the power of God.  We are nothing, no existence in this infinite universe. Then how can God be impure by touching?

God is free from death and birth cycle, moksha and sin, even time  can’t affect God. God is beyond time and kaalchakra.

Example – The kamakhya temple (Assam)

Here the male priest worships Devi kamakya. It is thought that Devi kamakhya undergoes menstrual and the clothes are kept in the temple and doors are closed.

The clothes become red in colour and this clothes is given in the form of prasad to the devotees. When the Kamakhya Devi becomes Rajaswala ( undergoes menstrual) ,a famous Mela is organised called Ambubachi mela. The clothes are also used for tantric cults and pujas.

If the females are impure then how can a female Goddess temples be worshiped? And the menstrual blood clothes are served to the devotees? Why are there antagonistic thoughts in our societies ?

Here one female is worshipped and others are considered impure?

Some people will say that Kamakhya is a goddess but human females are nothing.

The Goddess herself said that every woman in this world is the United of mine soul. Then every woman is Devi in itself. Another example – Every female child is worshipped as Devi in the month navratri.

My opinion about old times and village life

1 . There was no awareness about hygiene in that period. Women used cotton clothes and some even used dry leaves.

2 . The temples were not in large numbers. They have to walk kilometres for worship. In this long journey, Thigh chafing was common because of the blood.  So,they were prohibited to travel long distances.

3 . But the pickle can’t go bad and strange until it is touched by wet hands and dirty hands. In old times there were no more varieties of vegetables available .Pickle is a food item which is preserved for a long time, and if it gets moisture, Fungus will start growing in it. Today small women entrepreneurs are setting up their businesses of pickles and selling and growing their businesses on large scales. The women workers are paid for daily wages ,and they prepare pickles even during their menstrual cycle. Then why are the pickles not getting  molds today by touching and preparing these women?

4 . We talk about the old times  but love the modern lifestyle.

Example – Today girls are studying higher education which was not allowed earlier. They are still going to school even in their menstrual period. They are doing jobs and household chores even in their menstrual period. Then why are they not sitting in the houses in the menstrual period?

I am also a female candidate but here I just only want to say that that was the previous era in which girls were not allowed to do anything because of lack of awareness and precautions. But today we are living in the modern era but giving force to follow old age rules. Even some women who are also supporting menstrual blood are impure ,untouchable and dirty.

Our society talks old rules to follow but want to enjoy today’s luxurious, easy, comfortable life.

5 . Another reason is prohibition of entering the temple could be the blood. Because of lack of safety measures, sanitary  napkins in old times the risk of blood leaking could be there. The blood could fall on the ground.

The red colour of blood looks horrible. But it is the human mindset that people hate human blood and menstrual blood but they love animal blood in the temple premises!!!!!!
