 PEOPLE COVERING HEAD IN TEMPLE

PEOPLE COVERING HEAD IN TEMPLE

Covering head as we go to the temple premises, or while doing puja we cover our head with the decorative or loose end of the sarees, dupatta and even hankies. Not only females but male also cover their heads.

The question comes to mind is why do we cover our head or put hankies on it?

The overall question also arises about from where and when the ghoonghat ( veil) culture came?

PEOPLE’S OPINION :-

In this context the opinions vary from person to person and even place to place and religion to religion.

1 . Someone says, covering head is our surrendering process in front of our God.

2 . Some consider covering head is an auspicious covering Head in the temple

3 . It is a way / mode to respect our God and even elders

4 . Sometimes it is connected with modesty ( especially in females)

5 . Covering head\ veil is also for maintaining dignity of the women

6 . Also called as Sanatan culture

7 . Some people connect it with Environmental and climatic conditions in which they protect us from winds, storms etc

8 . Most of the person answer it as the veil/ ghoonghat looks classy any traditional

9 . Some denotes it as Pride and beauty

10 . Sometimes people say that it is the conservation of positive energy

11 . It is also said that, due to the islamic invasion, veil /ghoonghat arises

12 . The veil protests us from the dusts , pollution and fires, sunlight etc

13 . Covering the head during worship helps in focusing. { Because when we cover our heads, automatically the negative thoughts that come to mind are stopped and mind and heart both start focussing in the puja}.

COVERING HEAD IN THE TEMPLE :-

The temple is the holiest place for Sanatani. Here positive energies are vibrating everywhere. People can feel  that energy. Here they surrender their posts, egoes, wealth, greediness, tensions etc and whenever a person renounces its  kaam and krodha, ultimately the sahasrara  chakra becomes free and starts vibrating.

The whole thing is based on the conservation of Energy and devotion towards their god. They cover their head to conserve or feel that energy .

Example – If a glowing bulb is covered from the thin  clothes, the light or energy emissions will be less. Here the bulb is continuously glowing but whenever it gets covered, the whole light / energy will be inside the bulb. Less energy / light will come after covering. In other words here the whole light energy is conserved in the bulb.

ORIGIN OF VELL/ GHOONGHAT :-

No doubt the woman’s appearance in the veil /ghoonghat is very beautiful and adorable. But nowhere veil/ ghoonghat described in the Vedas. In Bharat, women do not cover their head. They were even permitted to upanayan ceremony ( Janeu). Their characters were their shield.

Even many women do not wears the blouse and petticoats. At present time also, many women in different areas do not wear the blouses and petticoats.

Similarly,  at many places of Bharat,  women do not cover their head even during worshipping or in temple premises Example – in Kerala, Konkani ( women), and Some other places of south.

Some of them thought covering Head is inasuspicious.

But in Rajasthan, they it as women’s pride,  dignity and status symbol.

In North areas, they covered their head as the rules and religious beliefs.

In Bengal, women cover their heads in front of her Brother in laws.

MEN COVERING HEAD :-

Men also covered their head on many occasions like during worship and various rituals:

1 . Islam says covering their head during namaz is mandatory

2 . Christians also covered their head in Churches

3 . Sikhs’s turban is their pride

4 . In sanatan they put the hankies or clean clothes.

From all of the above statements, it is clear that covering Head has 3 meanings that is

Religion, culture and pride.

WEARING TURBANS ON HEAD :-

Turban symbolises to the pride or dignity of that person. It is most common in Rajasthani people and in Sikhs people.

If any person who offers his turban to someone, indicates that  he is defeated. At present, in  many villages people wears turban, covering Head during extreme heat, wearing caps etc.

Covering heads also prevents dehydration from the sun.

COUNTER ANSWERS: –

Why women are always said to be in veil/ ghoonghat?  Many warriors in Bharat such as Maharani Lakshmi Bai didn’t covered her head. Because be in veil also indicates less confidence, powerless and weak personality.

One another question also arises that

Women cover their heads in temple, then why the sadhus and Rishis and even priests do not cover their heads ?

In case of sadhus and Rishis, they have already achieved their Siddhi and powers by meditation. They can control their energies of the Siddhis,  tantra and kundalini from the years of practice of meditation.

But priests in the temples still is a question.

A newly married girl covered her head and be in veil but whenever she herself becomes ageing, she uncover herself.

Some are said to cover head  forcefully whereas some do as per her choices.

I  never covered my head during worshipping and in temple premises. But I covered my head while going outside and in the sun. It gives protection from dust and pollution so that  my hair is always clean. I was in a veil when I became the bride. I respect my beautiful culture but I oppose  forcefully imposing a veil.
